Annoncée comme le trail 5-étoiles événement de 2014 et organisée en partenariat avec l’équipementier Raidlight, les Raiders 2000 et Transcontinent, la première édition de l’Ultra Trail Raidlight Beachcomber aura tenu toutes ses promesses.
Des tracés superbes avec des paysages époustouflants, une brochette cosmopolite de trailers, une organisation digne des meilleurs événements du genre et un hébergement haut de gamme au Shandrani Resort & Spa, où luxe et liberté vont de pair. La promesse était belle et l’Ultra Trail Raidlight Beachcomber, qui s’est tenu les 26 et 27 juillet 2014, a su se montrer à la hauteur des attentes suscitées. Les trois épreuves au programme ont attiré 272 participants de cinq nationalités différentes, donnant lieu à un spectacle inoubliable dans la nature sauvage du sud de l’île Maurice.
Il fallait être vraiment endurant pour tenir jusqu’au bout de l’épreuve phare, le « Trail des 7 couleurs », qui s’est disputé sur 120 km avec départ et arrivée sur la plage du Shandrani Resort & Spa. Sur 39 inscrits, seuls 14 ont réussi à boucler ce parcours qui longeait la côte avant de couper à travers champs de canne à sucre, forêts tropicales et réserves privées, avec 70 % de parcours inédit.
Au bout de 17h 14m 48s d’efforts, c’est Freddy Thévenin, champion de La Réunion en titre de trail et récent 4e lors de la première étape de l’Ultra Trail World Tour à Cortina d’Ampezzo, en Italie, qui l’emportera chez les hommes devant Romain Bayol et Armand Du Plessis. Chez les dames, Marcelle Puy, gagnante du Grand Raid de La Réunion à cinq reprises, a remporté la course en 25h 50m 55s, devançant Fabienne Joscht et Blandine Pochet.
Long de 42 km, le « Trail de la Perruche » proposait un parcours très original, avec une entame à partir du lieu-dit Alexandra Falls, à Plaine-Champagne, l’un des plus hauts sommets de l’île, un profil descendant et une arrivée sur la plage du Shandrani Resort & Spa. Sur les 102 inscrits, 88 étaient au rendez-vous à l’arrivée, avec en tête Vishal Ittoo chez les hommes en 3h 33m 00s et Odile Lecocq chez les féminines en 5h 01m 05s.
Conçu pour permettre aux amateurs de s’initier aux joies de ce sport extrême au cœur de la sublime et généreuse nature de l’île Maurice, le « Trail du Souffleur » affichait 131 participants, dont 111 ont franchi la ligne d’arrivée. Ashley Perrine, employé de l’hôtel Le Canonnier, du groupe Beachcomber, a terminé en tête chez les hommes. Il a effectué le parcours de 10 km longeant la côte depuis la fameuse arche naturelle du Souffleur jusqu’à la superbe plage du Shandrani Resort & Spa en 41m 37s. Sabrina Rabot-Keisler a, quant à elle, décroché la première place chez les dames en 47m 59s.
De l’avis unanime des participants, l’Ultra Trail Raidlight Beachcomber aura été une très belle aventure. Troisième du 120 km, Armand Du Plessis salue l’« excellent travail » des organisateurs. « Merci aux personnes placées aux points de contrôle de la course pour leur gentillesse et également aux participants du 42 km pour leur soutien lorsqu’ils passaient à notre hauteur. Bravo à tous et à l’année prochaine ! » Fabienne Joscht, deuxième chez les dames, dira pour sa part que « les ravitaillements étaient tellement bien organisés que moi qui souffre d’habitude de problèmes d’alimentation, j’ai tellement bien mangé que je n’ai eu aucun problème. Ce n’était même pas la peine de prévoir des barres énergétiques ou autre chose, car il y en avait pour tous les goûts. Du grandiose ! ».
Un succès d’organisation et de participation qui est d’excellent augure pour l’édition 2015 !
