Le saviez-vous ? La première conciergerie de l’île Maurice a été ouverte en 1987 au Royal Palm. À cette occasion, l’hôtel recevait les concierges des plus grands palaces londoniens(photo ci-dessous).
Et c’est en 1989, à l’hôtel Royal Palm, que Hirikesh Gunesh débute sa carrière comme concierge assistant sous la supervision de Monsieur Antoine Arroyo (initiateur de l’élan « Clefs d’Or » à Maurice). En 1992, il est nommé chef concierge et obtient la plus haute distinction des concierges de grands hôtels de luxe : les « Clefs d’or ». Il sera aussi, pendant des années, responsable de l’activité des concierges d’hôtels « Clefs d’Or » de l’île Maurice.
En mars dernier, c’est au tour de Souad Benha, Chef Concierge du Royal Palm Marrakech, de recevoir l’insigne des Clefs d’or et de devenir ainsi membre du cercle exclusif des huit femmes porteuses de l’insigne des clefs croisées au Maroc.
Nous leur avons posé quelques questions pour en savoir davantage sur leur métier et la vie de concierge.
INTERVIEW DES CONCIERGES Marrakech (SB) et Maurice (HG)
· L’adresse incontournable pour faire du shopping ?
SB : Le souk de la Médina, un monument aussi vieux que Marrakech, lieu où l'on se plaît à fouiner parmi les centaines d'échoppes proposant le savoir-faire de l'art et de l'artisanat marocain.
HG : À proximité de l’hôtel, la petite station balnéaire de Grand Baie est riche en bonnes adresses. Le petit bazar offre un artisanat local et indien haut en couleurs et sur Sunset Boulevard, vous trouverez toutes les grandes marques à la mode de prêt-à-porter et des créateurs mauriciens.
· L’excursion la plus demandée ?
SB : La découverte de la ville ocre via une visite guidée, avec comme lieux les plus demandés à visiter, le Jardin Majorelle, la Medersa, le souk et la place Jemaa el-Fna.
HG : On peut facilement combiner plusieurs sites touristiques dans le nord de l’île : le Château de Labourdonnais, une des plus belles demeures coloniales de Maurice, le Jardin botanique de Pamplemousses et le musée de L’aventure du Sucre, situé au cœur d’une ancienne usine sucrière qui retrace l’histoire de l’île et de sa canne à sucre.
· La demande la plus originale de la part d’un(e) client(e) ?
SB : Une demande de transfert en hélicoptère pour déjeuner dans un restaurant au pied du Haut Atlas (à 20 minutes en hélicoptère).
HG : En raison de mon devoir de discrétion, je ne peux répondre à cette question ! (rires)
· Le service le plus demandé à votre hôtel ?
SB : Conseiller et recommander un restaurant est le service le plus demandé à l'hôtel, des fois même avant l'arrivée du client.
HG : Ici, les clients demandent essentiellement des conseils sur les activités touristiques dans l’île et des recommandations de bonnes adresses.
· L’un des aspects les plus agréables ou passionnants du métier de concierge ?
SB : C’est un métier qui oblige la personne à être toujours à la pointe des nouveautés de la ville et du pays. Un métier loin de la monotonie. Un métier qui se base sur la créativité afin de faire vivre au client une vraie expérience authentique.
HG : Le concierge est l’ambassadeur de l’hôtel qu’il représente et ce métier permet de travailler en synergie avec tous les autres départements de l’établissement, mais aussi les prestataires de services extérieurs. C’est un métier de contact où le relationnel est primordial.
· …………….. Quelque chose d’autre à rajouter pour conclure ?
SB : La passion, la patience, le sens de l’écoute, le sens de la créativité, l'attention au détail et une ouverture d'esprit sont les qualités primordiales pour réussir le métier de concierge.
HG : Il faut connaître les clients et leurs habitudes afin d’offrir un service de qualité, rapide et efficace. La patience et la discrétion sont aussi des qualités majeures qu’un concierge doit avoir.
