La Péninsule du Morne, rendez-vous privilégié des sportifs

La Péninsule du Morne, sur laquelle sont implantés le Paradis Hotel & Golf Club et le Dinarobin Hotel Golf & Spa, est devenue le lieu de villégiature préféré à l’île Maurice pour des sportifs de haut niveau. Une quinzaine d’entre eux y ont posé leurs valises ces dernières semaines.

Les mois de novembre et décembre 2013 sur la Péninsule du Morne ont été marqués par un véritable défilé de célébrités du monde sportif, en particulier des joueurs de tennis et rugbymen de renommée internationale.

 

 

Le tennisman français Nicolas Mahut, un habitué du Paradis Hotel & Golf Club, et son compère de longue date, Paul-Henri Mathieu, ont ouvert le bal début novembre. Respectivement 50e et 129e mondial au classement ATP 2013, ils ont profité de leur séjour pour participer à une rencontre avec de jeunes joueurs locaux, organisée en collaboration avec la Fédération mauricienne de Tennis le samedi 9 novembre au Riverland Sports Club, à Grand-Baie.

 

 

Le même jour, leurs compatriotes rugbymen Jérôme Porical et François Trinh-Duc tapaient dans le ballon ovale avec de jeunes talents mauriciens sur le terrain du club de rugby de Rivière-Noire. Respectivement arrière au sein du Stade Français et demi d’ouverture du Montpellier HR, les deux internationaux bleus ont profité d’une trêve dans le Top 14 pour venir se ressourcer au Paradis Hotel & Golf Club.

 

Deux semaines plus tard, l’hôtel a accueilli en ses murs le N° 7 mondial de tennis et vainqueur de la Coupe Davis 2013, Tomáš Berdych. Le joueur tchèque, qui avait même grimpé dans le Top 5 entre août et septembre 2013, s’est offert quelques jours de vacances bien mérités peu après sa participation au Masters de Londres.

 

Depuis le 9 décembre, ce sont les pensionnaires de la Mouratoglou Tennis Academy qui ont établi leurs quartiers sur la Péninsule du Morne. Pour la troisième année de suite, ils ont choisi le Paradis Hotel & Golf Club pour la tenue de leur camp d’entraînement. Parmi les poulains du coach français Patrick Mouratoglou – qui pointe à la 39e place d’un récent classement des Français les plus influents dans le monde établi par le magazine Vanity Fair – figure la N° 1 mondiale, l’Américaine Serena Williams, qui avait séjourné à l’hôtel pour la première fois l’année dernière.

Les autres joueurs qui ont fait le déplacement sont, entre autres, la Chinoise Peng Shuai (42e WTA), la Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (109e WTA), les Français Alizé Lim (160e WTA), Jérémy Chardy (34e ATP) et Stéphane Robert (115e ATP), ainsi que le Français d’origine mauricienne Enzo Couacaud (487e ATP et l’un des meilleurs espoirs français 2013). Jusqu’au 23 décembre, ils allieront entraînements et détente au cœur de l’un des plus beaux sites balnéaires de l’île Maurice.
